LA JUGADA MILAGROSA. THE MIRACULOUS MOVE.

Since my reading lovely are, today we will see the last so called resource, his effect is similar to the drowned one or to the tables for perpetual check, his result originates in the mind of our adversary, an immense hatred, mixing the random with an exemplary technicality.

The chess of nowadays, it develops under a dynamism, with real longing for winning, such it is it, that we see few ones items defined by mate, since the technology to outpost. But it can happen, that before tamañas gain of winning, risks in excess, turning out to be like that, a position semi lost. Here it is where, he last resource executes.

It turns out paradoxical to heel, that the phrase: " The gained item, it is necessary to gain it ", it is exactly the most difficult thing to win. Though sometimes, one can be lost already from the half game and also he uses last resource.

Miraculous move, do not be, you who think, look like a deceit, actually it has not played miraculous, but miraculous positions, but they will be suitable of miracle, if we with certain technology see a certain combination, and well, we go out of the evil I happen.

An incredible game, it is that I develop Nei against Tigran Petrosian, in Moscow 1956, there after different skirmishes, having an evident advantage the white ones, the miraculous play arises, if this way it is, the play 33. Qg8 + it is impressively good and the Champion World fort must give up before similar position.

In the game of Obres against Koster, Capelle le Grand 1993, after which the black were pressing enough, an interesting position is generated, since the black in the play 27 deliver his lady, this way to win. But again he I finalize resource this one: 28. Qg8 +, incredible!, A bucket of cold water for the black.

To finish let's pay attention to the item developed between Auchenberg against Elgaard, Denmark 1992, after a Defense King's India, where the white ones pressed, to such a point that they manage to dominate the flank lady and to be located his laborer in c6. The black find his last resource, if the play 34... Qg8!!, The white ones take the bishop of d7, causing to simple sight, a disaster for the negresses. Nevertheless, real I finalize resource, it is the play 35... Bf8!!.

I believe my dear readers, to have been concise and clear, in the examples, since this way also, in the concept of last resource or miraculous move. I hope that this resource they it use, at least, the defeat it will not turn out to be so followed and they will obtain probably a few well-deserved well tables. Up to the next time...

Historia de las Olimpiadas de Ajedrez. History of the Olympics of Chess.

Prof.Mariano Victor Piñeyro

(Source, fuente: http://www.endgame.nl/olympiads.html)

The success of the Olympic Summer Games in Paris 1924 had a great appeal to chess organizers. National federations came to Paris in 1924 and FIDE (Fédération Internationale des Échecs) was proclaimed by fifteen nations. Alexander Rueb became the first president.

Four usual characteristics of chess Olympiads were present in London 1927: 1. The team tournament was the main event. 2. National teams of four players met. 3. Professionals were allowed. 4. Challenge trophy became the golden Hamilton Russell Cup. Hungary won the first official Olympiad.

3. Permitieron a profesionales. 4.

The second one became The Hague 1928. The FIDE wanted to participate in the Olympic Games and invited only amateurs. Although the Games took place in the Netherlands, chess did not even become a demonstration sport. FIDE seemed to be an amateurish family. But thereafter, a biannual team event of professionals and amateurs became a great success! Hamburg 1930 was the first full event. The USA won gold in 1931, 1933, 1935 and 1937. FIDE survived an economic crisis.

Germany had been excluded in 1933, 1935 and 1937 due to the Aryan paragraph. Although the ban of Jews had remained, a German team was allowed in 1939. Preliminaries were organised, because more than twenty countries participated. The start of the finals in Buenos Aires coincided with the invasion of Poland by Germany. England withdrew. Some teams refused to play Germany, the future winners. Eventually, many chess players stayed in Argentina.

The Olympiads were resumed in Dubrovnik 1950. A new era started, when the Soviet Union took part in Helsinki 1952. They dominated many Olympiads. Preliminaries occurred from 1952 until 1974.

The Swiss System was applied from 1976. Haifa 1976 became deviant, because it was boycotted by many countries. Hungary won Buenos Aires 1978. The Soviet Union triumphed from 1980 until 1990. The number of participating countries rose above one-hundred.

When the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia fell apart, this had great consequences for Manila 1992. The new republics became strong competitors. Russia was the main force and won from 1992 until 2002. Hereafter, other former Soviet republics took over.

FIDE turned a failure into a great success. The first intention was to join the Olympic Games. That never happened, because many chess players were professionals and only physical sports were allowed. Instead the Chess Olympiads became a separate biannual event. Nowadays, about two thousand players, officials and journalists participate in a tournament of two weeks.

by David Hendricks, Stevenson Chess Coach, WA Scholastic Chess Coordinator Rev. Oct. 13, 2008.

Earth is taking on Space in a chess match which started Sep 28th 2008, and Bellevue’s Stevenson Elementary Chess Team is in the thick of it. ChessMagnetSchool.com working with the USCF and NASA has set up a chess match between astronaut Gregory Chamitoff, currently on the International Space Station, and Earth. Earth is being represented by 11 members of the Stevenson Elementary Chess team, who took the 2008 K-3 National Championship and the K-5 U900 National Championship last April in Pittsburgh, PA.

American astronaut Gregory Chamitoff, born in Montreal Canada, but raised in California, has a BS in Electrical Engineering, an MS in Aeronautical Engineering, a Ph.D in Aeronautics and Astronautics, and another MS in Planetary Geology (busy guy!). He has developed autonomous flight vehicles, written papers on spacecraft guidance, and was a crew member on the Aquarius undersea research habitat. He also does scuba diving, backpacking, flying, racquetball, Aikido, juggling, magic, and guitar. Talk about the right stuff! He is spending 6 months on the International Space Station, scheduled to return November 2008.

And he plays chess. He doesn’t have an official USCF rating, but he has won all his games against the Houston NASA ground control in previous matches. He played chess as a young man and organized some chess matches informally.

Hal Bogner, Marty Hirsch, and Harlan Lee (from Bellevue WA), designers of ChessMagnetSchool.com, a website that is used by many Washington Elementary kids to learn chess, set up this match. Hal picked the Stevenson Chess team to represent Earth since they were the National K-3 champions. Astronaut Greg is playing the white pieces using a Velcro chess board (I guess a magnetic chess set would interfere with delicate electronics on board). You can hear a loud ripping sound as he picks up a piece - then he lets it float in space before setting it down. He sends down his move to Houston ground control, who gives it to Hal, who puts it up on a website at http://uschess.org/nasa2008.

Then Stevenson gets involved. The 11 national team members now in 3rd through 5th grades all vote on 3 choices for their response as black. The coaches don’t prompt them on their choices - this is the kid’s game. As coach, I get to collect their votes and pass the top 4 candidate moves back to Hal, who puts it up on the website and opens up voting to the Earth team. Anyone from Earth (sorry, no extra-terrestrials allowed) can then vote on any of the 4 choices, and the move that gets the most votes is selected as Earth’s move.

At this writing (Oct 13th 2008), the game has proceeded as follows:
See USCF site: http://uschess.org/nasa2008 for additional moves as the game progresses.)
1. d4 Nf6
2. Nf3 d5
3. Bf4 c5
4. e3 Nc6
5. Bb5 Qa5+

1. d4 Cf6 2. Cf3 d5 3. Af4 c5 4. e3 Cc6 5. Ab5 Da5 +

We are facing the London System. Check the website to see subsequent moves to the game. The game proceeds at a slow pace, about 1 move every 48 hours. Greg can only play as his time allows, he has a lot of science experiments he is in charge of. Once, the game was delayed while we waited for the astronauts to boost the space station into a higher orbit to prepare for docking.

Then the kids asked more questions and got answers:

“How has chess helped you in your career as an astronaut?” “It helped me to think logically and stimulate my mind – doing well in science and math is important in working on the space station – chess is a great game to prepare kids for the future – your generation will take us to Mars and beyond”.

The event was taped and will be shown from time to time on NASA TV. Comcast carries NASA TV periodically on channel 76 in the Bellevue area, it may also be available on Direct TV. KOMO Radio was there, the Bellevue Reporter is covering the event, we had media inquires from Washington DC, and even the Dutch Children’s newspaper Kidsweek. Ajedrez sin jaques. Chess without checks.

Diverse modalities exist in the chess, one is the chess without checks, without at least discovered, they serve to obtain other skills opposite to the board, the technology is learned better of when to realize a combination and mates are learned to give with more precision, all that already it was known by the teachers of the romantic age, for this reason, in Leipzig, in 1856, we see since it is possible to play hereby to the chess.

The item begins with the opening Defense Vienna, the line C26, very practiced during that epoch, where a pressure will exist on the enemy king on the part of the black, but then this one will have to calm the waters to execute with his lady the definitive mate. Max Lange anyhow already was a strong player and this item shows as this modality proves to him more than well.

The system of annotation is algebraic in English: N is Knight, B Bishop, Q Queen, R Rook, K King.

Leonid Stein: The big one without crown.

Leonid Stein: Un grande sin corona.
Leonid Stein: The big one without crown.

Prof.

Hello my lovely readers, I hope that the first article of this section about History of the chess they have liked, for it here the second one goes...
I was called to meet to the Municipal School of Chess Fray Ruy Lopez de Sigura to the ends of fulfilling certain administrative collections, but obviously having concluded it, look at me around and I saw a class in the distance, take air and warily I decided to sit down only to discover that marvels saw.

Within a few minutes explains to me the teacher MI Diego Valerga, that the games to seeing will be of the GM Leonid Stein, certainly in this moment I felt like a fish to water, and only devote myself to give information about this spectacular player. The days happened between article and I articulate and simply I said to myself: " And if I do an article of Stein's life ".

Since here my readers it begins my article, that Leonid Stein includes 376 items from 1959 until 1973 of the GM in order that they enjoy calm in house. Here it goes...
In the Central Club of Moscow in 1973 it one saw optimistic Stein and with good health, in spite of the fact that he was despising all kinds of sports diets, before going out of there it had a strong headache and at six o'clock in the morning it came to the doctor of police officer of the Hotel Rossia, the nurse gave to him a few tablets, but the pain was not stopping.

Little later the nurse without consulting I apply to him to the GM an injection and then Stein died, Gennadi Sosonko I ask him because Leonid died so prompt, a player that I achieve three times to be a Soviet, winning champion of the tilts of Moscow 1967 and 1971, where for that epoch the supertilts were celebrated every five years.
Stein in the tilts was so rapid as it it is nowadays Anand, with the time it was putting more slow and enclosed term in several Zeitnot (difficulty of time), his career was not a bed of roses, was born on November 12, 1934 in a people of the west of Ukraine, called Kaments-Podolski, and grew in the bosom of a humble Jewish family.

In 1941 his family is evacuated of Uzbekistan and it lived in the south of Tashkent, where his father died in 1943, after war Leonid and his brother moved to Lvov together with his mother and it began to be employed at the cafeteria of a school. Little later Stein would graduate in journalism in the University of Lvov, and only it was interested in the Chess, study in the palace of the pioneers by the teacher Gorenstein, but only two persons had a strong influence in him: Geller and Sokolsky.

Stein up to the moment was suffering several unevenness, only until 1950, when I take part of the Championship of the USSR (juvenile category), but this him would last: school problems and the military service (in Azerbaijan and Zabaikal), this I finalize take advantage of it and finish champion of the Armed Forces. After this and with 24 years, I return to Lvov and he did not like to be employed at alone chess, it never had a book in his house on chess, only I am of interest in the decade of sixty in the books, also it is of emphasizing that in his house there was no an alone chessboard!!, with Geller's help newly in 1959 Leonid was ready for the elite of the chess.

Stein began to play Ruy Lopez and the King's India, it was regarding the openings an improviser, let's see like it was his "preparation": Little before the food it was coming to the room of his trainer and was speaking with on chess, Shajmaty Bulletin and Shajmaty Riga was throwing a glimpse to the magazines and was mumbling " very interesting "
And it was going to eat up. Only it was preparing the items in his head!!, this would frighten to more of a great current teacher.

In the middle of the sixties it had to improve his technology in the ends, he is proclaimed a champion of Ukraine in 1960, third party in the Zonal one of 1961, as said to himself before champion of the USSR three times (from 1963 to 1966), judging by these proved alone Boris Spassky was overcoming it, then I wonder because I do not dispute a match for the world crown.
To this question only there are few answers: The tension of the tilts eliminatories and the discriminatory rule of " the three " (not more than 3 players of the same country were allowed in the candidates' cycle), it prevented him from continuing forward, after the interzonal ones of Stockholm of 1962 and Amsterdam of 1964, if now someone should propose a rule as this one it would lead to a protest for discrimination.

Then I come the Sousse's interzonal one of 1967, where the favorite was Fischer, Stein could share together with Hort and Reshevsky of one match of settlement of a tie to classify, but it lost with Hort and then I begin with Reshevsky, the crisis him lasts up to the interzonal one of the USSR of 1969, before it had the following personal problems: I change house on having moved of Lvov to Kiev, to the being a bigger house (now tape-worm two precious daughters), but on the other hand left the city where the whole world hi know and where I know formed as player.

Stein's weak point they were the beginning in the tilts and then it was recovering, this shows his mental stability. Another factor was his insecurity in his own force and his bad preparation for the competitions, but in spite of it Leonid is interested in the history, in the philosophy, in Spartakiada of 1972 where Stein was leading the equipment of Ukraine, but then it yielded this position to Vladimir Savon, which was the current Russian champion, Ukraine at last serious I come second in the final classification.

Here I tell them made little known, that happened in 1966 during the Olympiad of Havana and in presence of the Cuban prime minister Fidel Castro, Stein was invited by Bobby Fischer to dispute with a friendly match. Stein consented been charmed with, but the match I never celebrate because it was prohibited by the sports Soviet authorities.
It is necessary to think if Leonid Stein had not disappeared so promptly, the world of the chess serious very differently, but the intention of this article is to remember this champion without crown with all the honors of a great champion, and for my part is grateful for the formidable class of the Teacher of the Municipal School of Chess Monk Ruy Lopez de Sigura MI Diego Valerga, for having got mad furthermore with the mastery of this great teacher with capital letters: LEONID STEIN
