Vladimir Nabokov y ‘La defensa’. La novela ha sido llevada al cine con el título de La defensa Luzhin. Se trata de la vida del gran maestro de ajedrez Alexander Luzhin, que se prepara para enfrentarse al italiano Turati. Alexander pertenece a la categoría de jugador chiflado: un prodigio en el tablero y un despistado fuera de él. Se nos cuenta su infancia y su pasión por el ajedrez y el perfil sicológico del jugador de este juego. Se entra incluso en la descripción de jugadas. La trama de la novela está hábilmente manejada por este maestro ruso de las letras. Es conocido por su creación de problemas de ajedrez.

Cuando hablamos de las obras de Nabokov lo hacemos de obras maestras de la literatura universal. Es cuando menos chocante que un autor ruso sea uno de los mejores escritores en lengua inglesa. Para mí siempre es una delicia tener entre las manos una novela de Nabokov y disfrutar con su lectura.

Jorge Luis Borges y ‘Ajedrez’. Impone verdadero respeto acercarse aunque sea de puntillas a la grandiosa figura de este argentino ilustre, una de las glorias de las letras en el idioma español, máximo exponente literario del siglo XX, que vivió 87 años entre nosotros. Ha sido cuentista, ensayista y poeta de talla universal y un intelectual de primer orden. Algún día le haré un sentido homenaje y mostraré desde mis modestos conocimientos qué aspectos, que son muchos, me han impresionado siempre en él. Por ejemplo, disfrutaré ligando Borges y Buenos Aires, yo que soy tan proclive a este tipo de matrimonios indisolubles.

Stefan Zweig y ‘Novela de ajedrez’. Escritor austriaco de novelas, cuentos y biografías. Fue muy popular en la década 1920-1930. Nació en Viena en el seno de una familia judía acomodada. Se doctoró en filosofía en la Universidad de Viena. Fue un intelectual comprometido frente a las doctrinas nacionalistas imperantes en la época.
Stefan Zweig and ' Novel of chess '. Austrian writer of novels, stories and biographies. It was very popular in the decade 1920-1930. It was born in Vienna in the bosom of a Jewish well-off family. Novela de ajedrez es quizás su novela más famosa. Durante su desarrollo tiene lugar una partida de ajedrez entre Mirko, quien sin capacidad para cualquier otra actividad intelectual, se reveló ya desde niño como un genio del ajedrez, habiendo llegado a ser campeón del mundo. En un viaje a Buenos Aires en barco conoce a un noble vienés, su contrincante en el juego, que huye de los nazis. El autor nos presenta el choque de dos naturalezas antagónicas y también la capacidad del ser humano sometido a una presión de nivel extraordinario. Unos hechos contados magistralmente y de forma intrigante.

Zweig wrote plays and poetry and did translations of known authors, but it was more prolific of the kind of the novel. We can mention between these, besides Novel of chess, the following biographies and novels: Maria Estuardo; Maria Antonieta; Erasmus; Magellan's history; Three teachers: Balzac, Dickens, Dostoievski; star Moments of the humanity; The fight against the demon; Twenty-four hours in the life of a woman; etc.

Tal vez, tan fascinante a los ojos, como al corazón. Veremos la unión infinita entre el ajedrez y la literatura. No sobre libros de ajedrez. Sino sobre novelas, poemas que relatan sobre ajedrez.
Maybe, so fascinating to the eyes, as like to the heart. We will see the infinite union between the chess and the literature. Not on books of chess. But on novels, poems that they report on chess.
Para ello, veremos determinados especialistas en la materia. Donde cada uno de ellos, expondrá su visión. Y claro esta, les nombrare la fuente, en este caso al principio de cada parte.

El carácter artístico del ajedrez se remonta a aquellas memorables partidas de jugadores como Andersson, Morphy y Philidor, donde las combinaciones eran verdaderas composiciones artísticas. Pero en realidad, su protagonismo va más allá de esto. Mostramos varios casos en la literatura, cine y ballet donde el ajedrez tiene un papel relevante.

Destaca también “La Tabla de Flandes” del escritor español Arturo Pérez Reverte, también llevada al cine. Este es un entretenido ejemplo de cómo el ajedrez (en estricto rigor “retroajedrez”) puede ser parte integral de la trama. A este libro le dedicamos una crónica previa, que el lector puede consultar visitando en entregas anteriores, la crónica “Quien Mató al Caballero”.

En este caso, como en los anteriores, la trama del libro fue utilizada como guión en la pantalla grande.

El rey Sam al-Rachid, gozaba la fama de ser el mejor jugador del re`no, hasta el surgimiento de Hatim-l-Kura, un soldado cuyo talento puso en duda la categoría del rey. La soberbia y el miedo a perder su condición de ajedrecista insuperable, condujo al rey a organizar un desafío a una sola partida y con tiempo, lo que no era usual para la época. Gómez Hueso, describe la partida con gracia y sorprende con un anecdótico final.

ESTRELLAS DE AJEDREZ QUE DARAN QUE HABLAR. STARS OF CHESS THAT WILL BE THAT TO SPEAK.

Cada vez las edades en los deportes se achican. El ajedrez no es un excepción a ello. Surge cada año del Campeonato Mundial Juvenil. Las futuras estrellas que dominaran al ajedrez mundial. Durante el 2010 en Chotowa se realizo dicho evento. Veremos, según mi opinión, a los que darán mucho para hablar.
Every time the ages in the sports are dwarfed. The chess is not an exception to it. It arises every year of the World Juvenile Championship. The future stars that were dominating to the world chess. During 2010 in Chotowa I realize the above mentioned event. We will see, according to my opinion, which they will give very much to speak.
Hablar de sus brillantes partidas. De cómo se lucen en el tablero. Elegí tres hombres: Dariusz Swiercz (cuarto en dicho torneo), A.R.Saleh Salem (quinto) y Kirill Stupak (noveno). De las mujeres: Rout Padmini (tercera), Kulkarni Pradip Bhakti (quinta) y Ekaterini Pavlidou (catorce).
To speak about his brilliants games. Of how they are illuminated in the board. I chose three men: Dariusz Swiercz (quarter in the above mentioned tournament), A.R.Saleh Salem (fifth and Kirill Stupak (ninth). Of the women: (third) Rout Padmini, Kulkarni Pradip Bhakti (fifth) and Ekaterini Pavlidou (fourteen).

Dariusz Swiercz: (born 1994) is a Polish chess grandmaster, He is a chess prodigy, being one of the youngest grandmasters in history and the youngest Polish grandmaster of all time, achieving the title at the age of 14 years and seven months. In the July 2010 FIDE rating list he is ranked seventh in the world for active players under the age of 16, first in Poland for active players under the age of 16 and a National Rank of 30.
Dariusz Swiercz: (nacido en 1994 ) es un gran maestro Polaco de ajedrez, es un prodigio de ajedrez, uno de los grandes maestros más jóvenes en la historia y el gran maestro Polaco más joven de todos los tiempos, alcanzando el título a la edad de 14 años y siete meses. Dariusz's grandfather showed him how to play chess when he was three years old. He became a FM in 2004 at the age of eleven, a IM in 2008 at thirteen and a GM in 2009 at the age of 14. Dariusz now represents his country Poland on an international scale in Chess Tournaments hosted around the world.

A.R.Saleh Salem: Rewrote history by becoming the youngest grand master in Arabia. The 15-year-old Salem completed his third grand master norm and has gained sufficient elo points to gain the prestigious Arab Chess Championship title. Dr Suliaman Al Fahim, president of UAE Chess Federation, awarded Dh100,000 to Salem for winning the title and said, “We are hoping to achieve greater heights and today it is a grand success for the UAE.”

Cada vez las edades en los deportes se achican. El ajedrez no es un excepción a ello. Surge cada año del Campeonato Mundial Juvenil. Las futuras estrellas que dominaran al ajedrez mundial. Durante el 2010 en Chotowa se realizo dicho evento. Veremos, según mi opinión, a los que darán mucho para hablar.

A.R.Saleh Salem: Rewrote history by becoming the youngest grand master in Arabia. The 15-year-old Salem completed his third grand master norm and has gained sufficient elo points to gain the prestigious Arab Chess Championship title. Dr Suliaman Al Fahim, president of UAE Chess Federation, awarded Dh100,000 to Salem for winning the title and said, “We are hoping to achieve greater heights and today it is a grand success for the UAE.”

Kulkarni Pradip Bhakti: Bhakti Kulkarni's consistent efforts in the field of international chess were rewarded when Goa's Chief Minister Digamber Kamat announced a special grant of Rs. 2 lakh for her at his residence in Margao recently. Mr. Kamat, who is a keen sportsman himself and has consistently supported the cause of Goan chess, decided without any hesitation whatsoever when he was approached by Bhakti's father Pradip Kulkarni for financial assistance.

Many chess players live in a world of their own. The game of chess has touched off some very bizarre behavioral patterns among chess players. Here are some examples of the eccentrics of chess.

CELEBRITIES PLAY CHESS. CELEBRIDADES QUE JUEGAN Y JUGARON AL AJEDREZ
Many celebrities played and enjoyed chess. Some of them were actually very good chess players. An interesting fact is that most of the Nobel Prize winners who played chess were in the fields of physics, literature and economics. A number of the high technology company founders play chess. Research on chess in schools demonstrates that playing chess helps children improve their logical and abstract thinking, decision-making and creativity. Might there be a correlation between chosen careers and early exposure to chess? Leading in your field takes courage, a lot of energy, strong intuition, adaptability, desire to achieve, and persistence. People persist because they are passionate about creating things that matter and love what they do.

He wrote that Sevian learned to play chess at age five and earned a modest rating of 315 from his first tournament, when he was living in Florida. By the time his family moved to California in 2007 (when he was seven years old) his rating had risen to 1614, higher than most adults. In February 2009 he was named the Bay Area Chess Player of the Month.

Certainly the 2010 London Classic occupied the spotlighted center of World Chess attention during December. It was promoted and directed by Malcolm Pein of the London Chess Center, courtesy of a private sponsor, in an attempt to revive England’s once-prominent position in the world of chess tourneys.

Carlsen defeated Adams in the second round, but lost to Anand in the third. He was able to recover because the scoring awarded three points for a win, one point for a draw. Carlsen was tied for the lead after the next-to-last round and cemented his lead by defeating Short in the last round. He finished two points ahead of Anand and McShane.

An amusing incident of the tourney was that in the third round, Nakamura showed the use of only 15 minutes on his clock by the 25th move, while Howell had used up all his time except for five minutes. By that time, Howell had a knight, rook, and a couple of pawns for a surrender of his queen. Nevertheless, Howell built a fortress and like Hannibal at the gates of Rome, Nakamura’s roving queen could not find a way in. The game was drawn. On his website, Nakamura states that he knew the game from start to finish, but Howell had found all the right moves to hold the game.
